Highland Piping and Drumming

There’s nothing quite like the haunting and awe inspiring sound of the Great Highland Bagpipe, skirling over the field of a Highland Games.

Throughout the weekend you will hear pipes and drummers performing as full bands, small groups, and soloists. But on Saturday morning, you will have an opportunity to watch and participate in the very popular mini-band competition. Spectators will be given the chance to pick the winning mini-bands of the grade 4 and grade 5 mini-band competitions. If you correctly select the winning bands, your name will be entered in a drawing for a prize! The competition is from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday, June 12. Massed bands to follow! The Bands will be: Omaha Pipes and Drums, Tullintrain West of Kansas City, Kansas Territorial and the KC St. Andrew Pipes and Drums.

Pipers and drummers will be available during the day to explain the Great Highland Bagpipes, the snare or ‘side’ drum, the tenor ‘flourishing’ drum, and the bass drum.
