Masters Champion Kevin Henderson Quite possibly, the tradition of Scottish athletic games dates back to the period of Roman invasions in the 2nd and 3rd centuries. Highland Games were employed by the ancient chieftains and kings to test the agility, cunning and physical strength of their clansmen. The victors of these trials were then awarded positions of leadership both on the battlefield and in the clan.

The Kansas City Scottish Highland Games is once again pleased to host many of the best athletes from regional and national competition. In addition to our regular events, we are hosting the U.S. National Lightweight Championship – for athletes weighing 190 lbs. or less and featuring contestants from across the United States. Look for some exciting action from this group!

Registrations will be accepted starting on May 1, 2011.

Started in 2008, the Kansas City Games will again host professional competition in the National Weight for Distance Championship. Pro athletes compete by invitation for top honors and prizemoney against the best in the field. Don't miss this event by top-ranked world athletes and record-holders.

Our athletic competitions are all governed under the United Scottish Athletic Directors (USAD) rules, and in association with Rocky Mountain Scottish Athletics (RMSA).

On June 12, 2009, the night before the competition started, we lost our dear friend and announcer - Jerry Van Dkye after a 2 year battle with cancer. Our festival weather for 2009 was one of the best in recorded history and we all felt Jerry sent it to us! In honor of him we started The "Jerry Van Dyke Annual Caber Challenge"
