Heartland Sword Challenge

The KCSHG continues this prestigious award now in its twelfth year. A Scottish Basket-hilt Broadsword will be awarded to the best sword dance of the day. The First place sword dance finalist from each Premier age group will qualify to dance in the Challenge (Sword Dance). Beginning with the inception of this Award (1996), a dancer can only receive the award twice.

*The competition will be held outside -- dancers and spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets

General Rules

All dancers must have valid S.O.B.H.D. registration cards. No entry will be accepted without current number. Also, all dancers must show their Registration card the day of the competition in order to compete.  Competitions will be conducted in accordance with S.O.B.H.D. regulations.

All entries must be postmarked no later than Saturday, May 31, 2008.  Competitors will receive a gate pass and letter of confirmation if the postmark date is met and a self-addressed envelope is included when sending entry form. Late entries accepted until June 7 with $10.00 penalty fee. No field entries accepted.

Age groupings for Pre-Premier Classes will be determined according to number of entries.

The decisions of the Adjudicators are final. Petitions should be filed to the Dance Chairman no later than 15 minutes after awards sessions. The petition should be in writing and accompanied with a $10.00 fee that will be refunded if petition is warranted.

NOTICE: Primary dancers should be ready to compete at 10:30 am. Events #1 and #2 will be danced consecutively and events #3 and #4 in rotation with other Pre-Premier National dances.

Prizes and Trophies

Pre-Premier Dancers: Medals will be awarded to three places. There will be no Class Trophy awarded in the Primary Class. Class trophies will be based on all dances. A Pre-Premier Grand Aggregate trophy will be presented. For a group to qualify for this award, there must be six dancers registered in the group.

Premier Cash Awards: Class winner from each age will dance off for "Dancer of the Day", dance to be chosen by judges.
